The National Lottery has released a statement on their position of charities using AI like Chat GPT to help write their funding bids.

In summary, they allow AI tools like ChatGPT to be used to help you write funding applications. However, they advise to use them with caution.

When using AI tools they can be a great starting point but can produce generic content that misses the unique qualities of your organisation. In their statement, they provide top tips when writing a bid using AI and the potential risks of using it.

Their key points were

Don’t rely on AI: Edit AI content to reflect your community’s needs, with specific details and real examples to help avoid funding bids sounding the same.

Be Specific in Applications: Clearly outline your project’s activities, impact, and budget and include why your project is unique.

Verify AI Outputs: Ensure the accuracy of what’s produced and be cautious of what data you share when using AI as some tools may store the data you input.

Use it Mindfully: AI has a significantly negative impact on the environment so avoid using it unnecessarily.
