Romodels do brilliant work to inspire primary school children across Wales by introducing them to Romodels in diverse careers. However, they identified that schools and teachers, potential funders and their supporters were unable to find them online. This case study explores how developing their online presence and improving their website content allowed Romodels to reach and engage with their target audiences.

The Problem

Romodels identified a need to improve their digital presence so they could connect with their target audiences effectively. So, they reached out to Newid and received support through our mentoring service

Key gaps identified by Newid

  • Limited discoverability: The website was not optimised for search engines (SEO), making it difficult for teachers and supporters to find Romodels when searching for career education resources.
  • No social media presence: Romodels had no active social media channels. This meant they could not share their work with a wider audience and could potentially miss out on new opportunities.
  • Untargeted website copywriting: Their website lacked clear calls to action, making it harder for visitors to understand the offer and take meaningful steps, such as signing up or supporting the charity.

These challenges limited Romodels' ability to raise awareness of their impactful work, secure funding, and scale their impact.

What Support They Received

Through Newid’s coaching offer, Romodels received

  • One-to-one mentoring: Specific advice on creating a social media strategy.
  • Digital review report: Actionable recommendations to improve website functionality and develop an engaging social media presence.
  • Strategic planning: Support prioritising key actions to help strengthen their digital engagement with schools, funders, and supporters.

Outcomes

With Newid’s guidance, Romodels laid the groundwork for a more impactful digital presence.

The mentoring and support led to the following

  • Improved website functionality: Romodels had an engaging website but needed clearer calls to action to guide users more effectively. Newid recommended adjustments to make important information more accessible, such as placing key messages and registration links in prominent positions to help users to know how to engage with the charity.
  • Social media launch: Romodels created accounts on Facebook and Instagram which allowed them to share their mission and interact with key audiences directly for the first time. Newid provided guidance on developing a strategy, choosing the right platforms, and using targeted messaging

Impact

With a stronger digital presence, Romodels has been able to reach more schools, funders, and supporters. As a result, they have recruited new Romodels, including Levi Tyrell Johnson, a talented performer who recently starred in the hit musical Hamilton, and Harry Wilson, a Welsh footballer who plays for Fulham.

What the Romodels team said

“Newid’s support has been invaluable in helping Romodels establish its digital presence and help us scale our impact for learners across Wales. These changes are allowing us to connect with schools, funders, and supporters more effectively and enabling us to inspire the next generation of leaders, change-makers, creatives, engineers, entrepreneurs, scientists, sporting heroes, and trailblazers across Wales.”
